Pakistan airlifts 136 students from Kyrgyzstan

Islamabad, June 16, IRNA -- A Pakistan military plane Tuesday airlifted first group of 136 students from the violence-stricken Kyrgyzstan and another plane left to bring more stranded students, the Information Minister said.
Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, who received the students at a military airbase, said the government will take all measures to bring all students from Osh, the main city in Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic violence has claimed over 100 lives.
Several students, who were happy on safe return, told reporters at the Chaklala Air Base, that they were not expecting to return live as the situation had been worst in Osh city, where they had been studying.
Family members of students were also at the airbase took sigh of relief when they saw thier children.
A Pakistani student was killed during the violence in Osh and over 100 more Pakistani students are still stranded there.
"Gunmen also fired at our bus when we were on way to the airport," a female medical student told reporters at the airbase. She said the Kyrgyz troops escorted their bus to the airport.
Several students said they want to complete their education in Pakistan if the government allows them migration.
A Pakistan student, Imtiaz Ali Khan, who is stuck up at Osh airport, told Express TV channel that he and several other students, including female, are anxiously await Pakistani plane to return home.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit, who was also at the airbase to welcome the repatriated students, said that another C-130 military transport plane will bring over 100 students by Tuesday evening.
Pakistan sent the second plane to Kyrgyzstan with medicines and food items for the people affected by ethnic violence, head of the National Disaster cell Major General Nadeem Ahmed said.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani told the Senate on Monday that Pakistan will be sending humanitarian aid to the people of Kyrgyzstan.
He said Pakistan has sent one military transport plane with humanitarian aid and will send more in the days to come. The Prime Minister said that all stranded Pakistani students have been asked to gather at one place to bring them from there.
Pakistan ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Tanvir Khaskheli told Geo television on phone that a small number of traders or laborers have also been sent home with the students in the first flight. He said remaining 113 Pakistanis stranded at Osh airport.
All Pakistanis are safe and sound and are in contact with Pakistani officials besides food items and other relief goods including blankets and medicines have been dispatched to them, he added./end
