SHANGHAI, June 15 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Tomsk region plans to put the
Chinese language studies on secondary school curriculum, the region's
governor, Viktor Kress, told a news conference on Tuesday.
"We register a big interest in the Chinese language studies in our
region," the governor said. "At present, over 500 Tomsk residents study
Chinese under the programme of the Confucius Institute."
Chinese students are also eager to get education in higher educational
institutions of Tomsk, the governor said. At present, several dozens of
Chinese citizens study at the Tomsk State University.
"Education and science are one of the major areas of our cooperation
with China," Kress said.
The Tomsk region's delegation led by the governor represented the
region's investment opportunities at Expo 2010 Shanghai.
