Japan grant assistance to improve primary education in Saravane
(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth US$127,175 through the Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) for the renovation of a primary education for ethnic children in Saravane province.
The renovation project is under the grant assistance scheme of a Japanese NGO.
The SVA, a Japanese NGO working in Laos mainly in the area of primary
education, has signed a grant aid with the Japanese Ambassador to Laos.
The grant agreement was signed on 15 July at the Embassy of Japan in Laos
between Mr Massaki Miyasita, Ambassador of Japan to Laos, and Mr Hotoshi
Kawamura, country representative of SVA.
This is quoted from a press release of Japanese Embassy.
Primary school teachers use Lao language in their teaching however school
children of ethnic minority groups in southern provinces can only understand
their native languages. The main objective of this project is to encourage
children to study Lao language through illustrated picture books made by
SVA.
Unlike picture books written in English or Thai language, there are few
picture books written in Lao language. Hence SVA is trying to provide
primary schools in all over this southern province with 50 library boxes
under this project. Each library box has about 100 picture books. In
addition, training of teachers is also provided in this project to teach how
to use picture books and library boxes for improving education quality.
It is expected that this assistance will contribute to improving the basic
education in these areas.
