TURKISH PRESIDENT UNDERSCORES IMPORTANCE OF NUCLEAR COOPERATION WITH SOUTH KOREA
SEOUL (A.A) - 15.06.2010 - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that his country attached great importance to cooperation with South Korea over the construction of a nuclear power plant on Turkey's Black Sea coast, adding that nuclear energy was a must for Turkey.
Addressing a group of Turkish and South Korean businesspeople at a meeting of the Turkey-South Korea Business Forum in capital Seoul, Gul said the two countries had strong and friendly relations, adding "economic and commercial relations should match the level of excellent political ties."
Gul said the trade volume between Turkey and South Korea was around 3 billion USD, stressing however that 93 percent of it was South Korean exports to Turkey.
"We need to fix this unbalanced situation in the trade between our two countries. There are many things that Turkey can sell to South Korea, a country which is one of the biggest economies in the world," Gul said.
The Turkish president also invited South Korean businesspeople to make investments in Turkey, adding that his country offered extensive opportunities for foreign investors.
"There is no confidence problem in Turkey and Turkey is one of the rare countries with low risk and high turnover. I am calling on South Korean investors to come to Turkey, where you will face no barriers or bureaucracy," Gul said.
