CONSUMER PRICE INDEX AND BANKING SECTOR IN STATISTICS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The national consumer price index in May of this year increased by 3.2 per cent against the previous month; by 13.1 per cent--against the end of the previous year; and by 11.6 per cent--against the previous year.
Growth in national index compared to previous month was mainly due to the 6.4 per cent increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

According to the report of the Bank of Mongolia, money supply (broad money or M2) at the end of May, 2010 expanded to MNT 3253.1 billion reflecting an increase of MNT 90.1 billion or 2.8 per cent against the end of April 2010, and an increase of MNT 848.4 billion or 35.3 per cent against the previous year.
At the end of May, 2010, currency issued in circulation reached MNT 462.7 billion increasing MNT 17.7 billion or 4.0 per cent against end of April 2010, and increasing MNT 81.5 billion or 21.4 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Loans outstanding at the end of May, 2010, amounted to MNT 2852.7 billion increasing MNT 87.8 billion or 3.2 per cent against the end of April 2010, and by MNT 317.8 billion or 12.5 per cent--against the previous year.
Meanwhile, principals in arrears decreased MNT 11.5 billion or 8.3 per cent against the end of April 2010, and by MNT 37.2 billion or 22.6 per cent--against the same period of the previous year to MNT 127.5 billion at the end of May, 2010.
At the end of May, 2010, the non-performing loans over bank system reached MNT 414.8 billion decreasing MNT 1.2 billion or 0.3 per cent against the end of April 2010. It increased MNT 120.3 billion or 40.9 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year.
