Kyrgyz public organizations ask Russia to send peacekeepers.
BISHKEK, June 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Some 76 Kyrgyz public organizations
sent Sunday to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev an appeal asking to
dispatch Russian peacekeeping forces in the republic.
"To prevent the conflict and a social catastrophe from spreading on
the whole Fergana Valley, where more than 20 million representatives of
various peoples and nationalities live, we ask desperately to dispatch as
soon as possible Russian troops as peacekeeping forces for restoring
peace," the appeal runs. The leaders of public organizations noted that
the Kyrgyzs and the Uzbeks "lived for centuries and will live together"
and consider the tragic events as "a cruel provocation."
"The Uzbeks and the Kyrgyzs exerted and exert all the effort to
localize the disorders, but the provocative forces have substantial
resources, weapons and hire mercenaries to expand the conflict zone," the
appeal to the Russian leadership said. "All facts point to a well-plotted
action: the preliminary making and distribution of provocative video
records, the simultaneous launching of disorders in various parts of the
city of Osh," representatives of the Kyrgyz public organizations believe.
They also mentioned that "young people, who are participating in the
riots, have massive supplies of weapons and ammunition, do not look like
local residents, drive expensive cars with tinted windows and spark up
conflicts in various settlements."
The leaders of Kyrgyz public organizations recalled that "Russia has
always extended the helping hand" to the people of the republic,
particularly in "hard years of the history." "We realize that it will be a
quite difficult decision for you, but we ask you to do it for the sake of
peace and for the salvation of human lives," the appeal runs.
.RZD restores train traffic in Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod regions.
MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Railway repairmen have restored the
train traffic in the Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod Regions under the
time-delay schedule, a source in the Russian Railways Company (RZD) told
Itar-Tass on Monday.
"Eight long-distance trains are running with delays, the passengers
are provided with food and drinking water," the RZD source said. "The
passengers of the express trains from Kirov to Nizhny Novgorod and in the
opposite direction were brought to the destination stations by bus," the
source said.
The Nizhny Novgorod regional power utility should restore the power
supplies for the railway power substations to resume the scheduled train
traffic as soon as possible, the RZD source said. "Operational
headquarters are working in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod to resume the
scheduled passenger train traffic," the source said.
A strong thunderstorm, which was raging in the Vladimir and Nizhny
Novgorod Regions on Sunday afternoon, triggered power outages on the
railway lines.
.Utilities cleaning up thunderstorm aftermath in Moscow region.
MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Workers of all utility services will
keep cleaning up the aftermath of a strong thunderstorm, which was raging
in the Moscow Region on Sunday afternoon. The thunderstorm left thousands
of fallen trees and hundreds of meters of broken wire.
According to the power utilities, the thunderstorm disrupted the
operation of about 200 small transformer substations in the Moscow Region.
The power supplies were still cut in some regional settlements at
midnight. The fallen trees also damaged the fences of private houses in
many settlements. Some trees fell down on the cars.
The Moscow authorities noted that "the city services are removing the
trees, which the high winds had broken down mainly in eastern and
south-eastern Moscow." "Utility workers have removed urgently the trees
that fell down on the motorways. Other fallen trees in the parks will be
cut and taken away on Monday," a source in the Moscow Mayor's Office said.
The Moscow utility services received a warning about the thunderstorm
in advance, so "we have prepared for the thunderstorm - fixed advertising
billboards and road signs," the source said. However, two billboards fell
down on the Moscow circular road. No one was luckily hurt.
The Moscow airports were operating by actual weather during the
thunderstorm. Two airliners bound for the Vnukovo airport had to land at
the Domodedovo airport, one more airliner bound for the Domodedovo airport
had to make a landing in Nizhny Novgorod.
The train traffic was also disrupted partially in the Moscow Region.
Six commuter trains were delayed on the Orekhovo-Alexandrov railway
section due to power outages in the Vladimir regional power grid. "Railway
repairmen have restored the train traffic on this railway section under an
emergency scheme," the source said. Eight passenger trains were also
delayed over power outages in the Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regional
power grids.
According to Moscow weather forecasts, the air temperature in the
Russian capital will be just 19 degrees Centigrade and it will be cloudy,
but without precipitation.
