Turkish Speaker in Tehran to promote parliamentary ties

Tehran, June 13, IRNA -- Turkish Speaker of Parliament Mehmet Ali Sahin arrived in Tehran on Sunday at the head of a six-member parliamentary delegation.
Sahin is scheduled to meet and confer with his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
During his three-day stay in Iran, he will visit the historical city of Isfahan.
Before leaving Ankara Airport for Tehran, he called for expansion of parliamentary ties between the two countries.
Talking to IRNA, he said that parliaments directly represent the nations, and that promotion of ties between parliaments of Iran and Turkey would mean expansion of relations between the two nations.
The Turkish speaker said his visit to Iran which was taking place at Larijani’s invitation was in fact an opportunity to review mutual ties.
This is the first time a Turkish Parliament Speaker is visiting Iran in a decade./end
