Melbourne Airport evacuated after breach

Passengers have had to endure delays at Melbourne Airport's Qantas domestic terminal
after a security breach forced authorities to evacuate the area.
A Qantas spokeswoman said the entire terminal was evacuated on Saturday about 3pm
(AEST) after several passengers who disembarked from a Qantas flight from Devonport,
in Tasmania's north, were wrongly directed to bypass security.
Six flights were delayed by up to one hour, but none were cancelled after the
terminal was evacuated and all passengers were sent to an outdoor evacuation point.
The passengers were later re-screened at security, causing delays of at least 80
minutes.
"There's not security screening at every regional airport so passengers that travel
from a regional airport that doesn't have security screening have to be screened to
actually enter the terminal at Melbourne," the spokeswoman told AAP.
The spokeswoman said "human error" by Qantas staff is believed to be the cause of
the breach.
"We take this extremely seriously and have immediately launched an investigation,"
she said.
