Salehi: Iran awaits Japan’s response to start n-cooperation

Tehran, June 12, IRNA – Head of Iran’s National Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran expected Japan to fulfill its promise of building nuclear power plants now that the Tehran Declaration has been issued.

He made the remark while talking to IRNA reporters and chief-editors during his visit to the news agency on Saturday.

He further explained that Japanese ambassador, prior to signing of the Tehran Declaration, had voiced his country’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in building new nuclear power plants in Iran.

He said Tokyo was so keen for nuclear cooperation with Iran especially in the domain of building new power plants that it frankly asked Iran not to act hastily in signing contracts with other countries in this connection.

Salehi also said the last phase of tests in Bushehr nuclear power plant called “warn water test” will be completed in one week’s time.

He noted that Iranian and Russian experts were earnestly working in the nuclear site, adding that once the test is successfully conducted, there will remain no other tests to be done on the power plant and after necessary final works, the fuel transfer will take place and the power plant will become operational in September.

He also hoped that studies be completed by the end of current Iranian year (to end March 20, 2011) to spot the appropriate place for constructing a new enrichment site./end
