CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES HOSTS MEETING ON ROLE OF OSCE BAKU OFFICE IN DEMOCRACY PROMOTION

Baku, June 11 (AzerTAc). The Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President has today hosted a meeting on “the role of the OSCE Office in Baku in promotion of democratic values in Azerbaijan”. Head of the OSCE Office in Baku, ambassador Ali Bilge Cankorel made a presentation on the subject.
The ambassador touched upon the Azerbaijan-OSCE relationship, the role of the organization in establishment of democratic values in society, protection of human rights and development of civil society.
According to Cankorel, the Office regularly organizes seminars, roundtable meetings and other events for political parties, electoral commissions and NGOs to support democratic values in the country.
Cankorel hailed the progress made in the democratization process in Azerbaijan. But, he added, the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict puts impediment to development of democracy in both the country and region. He underlined the necessity of peaceful settlement of the dispute.
The diplomat also answered the questions of journalists.
The event was attended by officials of Foreign Ministry, MPs, diplomats, NGOs representatives, experts on regional and international issues.
