Help to Kyrgyzstan-priority task for SCO.
11/6 Tass 156
TASHKENT, June 11 (Itar-Tass) -- Assistance to Kyrgyzstan will be one
of the priority tasks during Kazakhstan's presidency in the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization, said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
"The maintenance of peace, security and stability in the Central Asian
region will be one of the priority tasks for Kazakhstan as SCO president.
This is especially topical, considering the current developments in
Kyrgyzstan," he said at the SCO summit, at which SCO rotating presidency
will go over to Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh president urged the SCO member countries "to help
Kyrgyzstan overcome the current difficulties, to maintain peace and
stability and to move along the path of the improvement of the social and
economic situation." In this connection, "assistance to Kyrgyzstan, both
humanitarian and on the crediting basis, would be of much importance."
Nazarbayev pointed to the positive role played by the SCO member
countries, specifically Kazakhstan, in preventing bloodshed in Kyrgyzstan.
"Kazakhstan played an important role in preventing bloodshed, especially
at the time when ex-President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was taken away from the
country," the Kazakh leader reminded.
