Malaysian arrested for smuggling $180,000 in 'ice'

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) - A Malaysian man on Thursday was arrested while waiting in the transit lounge at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport for smuggling 2.5 kg of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice", with an estimated street value of more than Bt6 million (US$180,000).

Gunalan Sinnasamy was apprehended after Thai drug police were informed of traces of ice smuggling from Ethiopia on Ethiopian Airlines, Flight 606. Five bags of the drugs were hidden in a specially-made compartment in the suspect's baggage.

The man confessed he had been hired for Bt60,000 by an Ethiopian agent
to smuggle ice to a drug network in Malaysia, where the drug was to be sold at a double price.

Police charged him with having 'ice' in his possession for sale and smuggling illicit drugs into the kingdom. (TNA)
