.Early population census starts in Russia's Far Eastern Magadan region.

MAGADAN, June 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Early population census started in the
most remote settlements of Russia's Far Eastern Magadan region on
Wednesday.
Six statistics specialists from Magadan and three representatives from
the Russian Federal State Statistics Service were brought by helicopter to
the settlements of Yamsk and Takhtoyamsk on Tuesday.
The early census is expected to be over on June 13, and the census
takers will be brought back to Magadan.
Yamsk and Takhtoyamsk are inhibited mainly by representatives of
ethnic minorities of the North. According to the previous census of 2002,
there were 350 residents in Takhtoyamsk, and 100 - in Yamsk.
The two settlements are reachable only by snow-going vehicles in
winter period. Yamsk has no direct motorway links to district and regional

transport only. An An-2 aircraft makes two flights in a month to
Takhtoyamsk.

be taken from October 14 though 25, like in the rest of the country.
Population census will be extended up to December in several Russian
regions having territories, which are hardly reachable due to climatic
conditions, remoteness, and the lack of transport infrastructure.
