'Majlis-govt. cooperation should transcend political persuasion'

TEHRAN, June 9 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said cooperation between the Majlis and the administration should not be influenced by political persuasions.

“This issue is related to matters of the revolution and the country, and cooperation between both sides should be based on such a perspective,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in an address to a group of lawmakers on Tuesday.

It is essential that parliament and the administration have close cooperation since this is the country’s need today, the Leader stated.

This important goal should be achieved, and neither of these bodies can shift responsibility on to the other by simply saying it has fulfilled its tasks, the Leader added.

He went on to say that the jurisdiction of the Majlis and the administration is defined in the Constitution, although some details are ambiguous and are not defined.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that there should be no inclination among administration officials to disobey Majlis laws, and there should also be no inclination among lawmakers to stall the activities of the administration.

“This saying that the administration has to obey the law is correct but… the legislature should consider the role and conditions of the executive branch managers… and the job of the administration should be facilitated,” the Leader observed.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said there is a big difference between drawing up a plan and implementing it, adding that parliament should provide suitable conditions for the administration to fulfill its responsibilities.

For example, it is not possible to undertake a task without the necessary funds, the Leader stated.

Or a bill which is proposed by the administration should not turn out to be different from the original after being revised by the Majlis, he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader pointed to recent events in the Middle East, particularly those related to Palestine, and said these incidents show that there is development and movement in the region.

Moreover, the status and influence of the United States and certain European countries in the world are changing, the Leader noted.

It is essential that there is unity and close cooperation between the various governmental bodies, if the country wants to play an effective role at this critical juncture.

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also presented a report on the parliament’s activities over the past two years and said 421 bills have been proposed and examined and 142 of them have been ratified and become laws.
