NEW YORK, June 08 (Saba)- The Republic of Yemen is taking part in the international conference on implementing objectives of the International Decade of Action 'Water for life' 2005-2015, as it
is presiding over the Group of 77 and China, which is currently taking place in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe on June 8-10.
At the opening of the conference, Yemen representative of the Group of 77 and China
Tariq Mutahar delivered a speech over challenges faced by developing countries of
the
South such as the scarcity of water resources and investment in the field of water.
He noted that around 90% of wastewater goes to valleys and drainage systems without
making use of it or treat it due to shortage of water and technical resources,
affirming
the importance of supporting the establishment of the MDGs with regard to
eliminating poverty and providing drinkable water.
Mutahar called the developed countries to provide relevant technology and water
resources for the developing countries, stressing the importance of role the UN can
play
and the exchange of scientific researches and technology in the area of water
