OVER 100 WOMEN TO JOIN CONFERENCE ON "WOMEN IN PUBLIC SECTOR"

Yogyakarta, July 16 (ANTARA) - Over 100 women from a number of countries will take part in a conference on "Women in the Public Sector" which will be organized by the University of Gadjah mada (UGM) here from July 16 to 17, 2008.

Among issues to be discussed in the conference would be poverty, health, reproduction right, discrimination in education and economic empowerment, Siti Hariti Sastriyani, head of the UGM's Women Study, said here on Wednesday.

The conference participants would come from among others the United States, the Netherlands, Thailand, Iran, Spain, Columbia, Senegal, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Madagascar, apart from Indonesia as the host.

"Women's participation in national development is significant asset to achieve the national progresses, especially when the country is currently facing multidimensional crises," she said.
