ISTANBUL, June 8 (Itar-Tass) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is of the
opinion that the priority task in the current situation in the Middle East
is a thorough and careful analysis of the recent incident with the
humanitarian caravan for Gaza Strip, which triggered a way of tension in
the region.
"We are very much concerned over the gross violation of the generally
recognized norms of international law," Putin said at a plenary meeting of
the Conference for Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
"We believe the most important thing today is to bring down tension, to
analyse the situation thoroughly and carefully and to do the needed
investigation. Another conflagration in the Middle East must not be
permitted."
"We favour the termination of the blockade of Gaza Strip as soon as
possible, as well as real steps for improving the humanitarian situation
on the Palestinian territory," Putin continued.
The caravan of ships with humanitarian cargoes on board tried to break
through the blockade last week, but was stopped in neutral waters by
Israeli naval vessels. Eight Turkish nationals and an American died in a
clash between the Israeli special task force and participants in the
international action.
