Transcaucasus-related matters to be discussed in Geneva.
GENEVA, June 8 (Itar-Tass) - The 11th round of discussions on matters
aimed at ensuring security and stability in the Transcaucasus will be held
here on Tuesday in the format of two working groups: those on security and
humanitarian matters.
The consultations, which are held under the auspices of the United
Nations, the European Union, and the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe, are involving the delegations of the Republic of
Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the United States, and the Republic of South
Ossetia.
Russia's Foreign Ministry communique, issued ahead of the meeting,
said participants in the consultations would discuss the situation on the
borders of Abkhazia and South Ossetia with Georgia, including the state of
affairs concerning the functioning of joint mechanisms for the prevention
of and reaction to incidents in border zones.
"New incidents have become known of late. They require an impartial
inquiry, first of all that within the scope of contacts through the
above-mentioned mechanisms. On the basis of mutually acceptable compromise
variants, the sides will carry on the search for a solution to the problem
of those reported missing and detained persons," the Ministry communique
said.
It remains the principal purpose of discussions "to work out a legally
binding agreement on non-use of force", the Foreign Ministry recalled.
"Russia will continue to make efforts to that end," the Ministry assured.
The sides are to consider such humanitarian matters as prospects for a
settlement of the problems of refugees and displaced persons with emphasis
on the need to ensure their rights, the principle of voluntariness and
safety in the process of repatriation. Moscow "is ready for a practical
coordination of a set of generally accepted principles and international
standards in this important humanitarian sphere so as to make headway
towards specific decisions in this field".
Discussions on matters of security and stability in the Transcaucasus
have been held since October 2008 on the strength of the accords reached
between the Presidents of Russia and France after the August 2008 tragic
events in South Ossetia.
The Russian delegation will be led by State Secretary and Deputy
Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
.ILA-2010 int'l aerospace show opens in Berlin on Tuesday.
BERLIN, June 8 (Itar-Tass) - The ILA-2010 international aerospace
show, which is held for the hundredth time this year, opens here on
Tuesday.
An organizing committee official has told Itar-Tass that the show is
involving 1,153 exhibitors from 47 countries, as against 1,127 ones from
37 countries in 2008.
The show will take place in the territory with an aggregate area of
250,000 square metres. About 300 aircraft and helicopters, with some of
them making a debut here, will take part in demonstration flights or will
be shown in parking areas. Foreign firms account for about 40 percent of
exhibitors.
The Russian exhibition is presented by companies that are part of the
United Aircraft Building Corporation and the Helicopters of Russia
holding, the Volga-Dnieper group of companies, the Gidromash public
joint-stock company, the transnational Cosmotrans Company, etc.
The air show is to be declared open by German Chancellor Angela Merkel
who will then make a 90-minute tour of the exposition.
Visitors to the air show will be able to get acquainted with the
contemporary technologies used by enterprises of the aerospace industry in
the field of environmental protection. These include new materials for the
aerospace industry, new ecologically pure components, technologies and
equipment that enable aircraft to make environment-friendly flights.
In particular, the aerospace show will feature the world's first
piloted aircraft Antares that operates on ecologically pure fuel elements:
the plane uses hydrogen which reacts with atmospheric oxygen. Such
interaction results in an electrochemical reaction which produces electric
energy without evolving harmful substances.
