Iran FM Spokesman: Exchanging Amiri with arrested Americans, improper

Tehran, June 8, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-parast said that exchanging abducted Iranian citizen Shahram Amiri with the three arrested Americans is an improper suggestion.
He made the remark while talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing.
As a rule, exchanging people whose cases were still legally open was an improper issue, Mehman-parast stressed, noting that the judicial investigations on the three American citizens who illegally entered a very sensitive region in Iran were still underway.
However, he added, Shahram Amiri is an Iranian citizen who was abducted and kept in detention against all humanitarian principles. He said Amiri was denied consular access and his situation clearly means “abduction”.
Mehman-parast further noted that the three Americans currently in detention in Iran are provided consular access, have already met their families and are living in the best conditions./end
