Bateman banned again

Hawthorn midfielder Chance Bateman is facing another AFL suspension, immediately
after returning from a three-week ban.
But Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands remains in contention for the Brownlow Medal
after being cleared of his sickening collision with Adelaide utility Phil Davis.
Hawthorn are more likely to take Bateman's case to the tribunal, given the
suspension stays at one match whether Bateman accepts the early plea or not.
It is a significant blow for the Hawks, who are back in the top eight on the back of
a four-game winning streak.
The match review panel suspended Bateman for kneeing Port Adelaide forward Daniel
Stewart in the third quarter of Sunday's 11-point win at the MCG.
Bateman's poor record and carryover points increase his total to 194.69, just short
of a two-game ban.
An early plea would reduce the points to 146.02, still well above the 100-point
threshold for a one-match ban.
Bateman returned from suspension for the Port game and was one of the Hawks' best.
He was previously suspended after the round-seven loss to West Coast for rough
conduct against Eagles defender Brad Sheppard.
Sandilands and Davis collided in the second term of Saturday's game, leaving Davis
with an injured shoulder.
The panel ruled that: "Sandilands was running towards the ball in a legitimate
attempt to mark the football.
"Contact was made while both players were seeking to take possession of the ball. No
further action was required."
TAB Sportsbet list Sandilands as an $18 bet for the Brownlow.
Like Bateman, Western Bulldogs key forward Jarrad Grant can accept a one-game ban
for striking Collingwood defender Ben Reid.
Grant is risking a two-game suspension if he goes to the tribunal.
St Kilda vice-captain Lenny Hayes can take a reprimand for striking Richmond
first-year player Jeromey Webberley.
Geelong utility Corey Enright also can accept a reprimand for rough conduct against
West Coast onballer Adam Selwood.
Enright's heavy hip-and-shoulder left Selwood with a damaged AC joint in his
shoulder, putting him out of action for at least a fortnight.
Geelong key forward James Podsiadly was charged with striking Eagle Will Schofield,
but also has the option of taking a reprimand.
Likewise, Brisbane full-forward Brendan Fevola can escape suspension by not
contesting his charge of striking North Melbourne defender Daniel Pratt.
Star Brisbane midfielder Simon Black can accept a $1950 fine for umpire abuse.
The match day reports against Carlton key forward Jarrad Waite (charging) and
Western Bulldogs ruckman Ben Hudson (rough conduct) were dismissed.
