Iran's fm back home from Saudi Arabia

Tehran, June 7, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Sunday arrived home from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he attended an OIC meeting about Zionist regime’s attack on a peace flotilla to Gaza.

Speaking to IRNA upon his arrival, Mottaki said the issue of Gaza and Palestinians is no more an issue only related to the Arab or Islamic world.

“Now Palestine is not just an Islamic issue but it is a major human rights issue in the current international circumstances,” Mottaki said.

During his day-long stay in Jeddah, he participated in the extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the executive committee member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Naval troops of the Zionist regime stormed a flotilla of ships carrying tons of humanitarian aid for the oppressed Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on May 31.

Some 10 people were killed and many others injured in the fatal attack which triggered outrage of people around the globe.

Tens of thousands of people protested on the streets and several countries summoned Israel’s ambassadors.

The international community has called for an impartial inquiry into the Israeli assault.

The ships had 682 passengers from 42 countries.

The OIC conference condemned the savage act of the Zionist regime calling it a terrorist act and an example of state piracy which has also violated human rights and every international rule, Mottaki said.

He added that the Islamic world, OIC member states in particular, should use all their potentials to immediately end Israeli’s long-term siege against the defenseless people of Gaza.

During the conference, Iran called for bringing to justice of the Zionist leaders, the complete removal of Gaza blockage, immediate shipping of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, imposing immediate sanctions against the Zionist regime and putting an end to its membership to the international and regional organizations.

On the sidelines of the meeting Mottaki also held separate talks with senior officials of other participating states including his counterpart from Turkey and with OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu./end
