Lebanon reaffirms Iran’s right to peaceful nuke energy

Tehran, June 7, IRNA – Foreign minister of Lebanon said Sunday evening the country’s president has reiterated that all nations including Iran have right to gain peaceful nuclear energy.

Ali al-Shami made the remark in a meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the ministers of the organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

On the recent Tehran Declaration on its nuclear program, al-Shami said Lebanon holds a clear stance on the issue. He added that "Iran performs peaceful nuclear activities in accordance with international regulations, while the Zionist regime has nuclear weapons." He stressed that due reaction should be made against Israel.
The Lebanese foreign minister further called for strengthening Tehran-Beirut ties.

Mottaki, for his part, said deepening Iran-Lebanon relations would benefit the two countries and would also bring about peace in the Middle East region.

Iran’s foreign minister visited Jeddah to attend the OIC urgent ministerial meeting on latest developments in the Gaza Strip as well as the Israeli forces’ attack on the aid flotilla to the Strip on Monday./end
