Russia wins Euro Beach Soccer Cup.
ROME, June 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia won the Euro Beach Soccer Cup-2010
beating Portugal 6-4 in the final. The final match was held in the Italian
capital on Sunday evening.
At first Russia was losing to Portugal, but then succeeded to turn the
tide and won the final.
Ilya Leonov from Strogino Moscow was recognized the best player and
his teammate Andrei Bukhlitsky was named the best goalkeeper.
Eight best European teams participated in the Euro Beach Soccer Cup.
The beach soccer pitch was placed in a major Rome tourist attraction - the
Circus Maximus, where gladiator competitions were held.
.CICA states to discuss security, economic cooperation.
ISTANBUL, June 7 (Itar-Tass) -- The member-countries of the Conference
on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) will open a
forum here on Monday to discuss security, broader political and trade and
economic cooperation between Asian countries.
A CICA ministerial meeting will open the forum. The heads of state and
government will participate in a CICA summit due on Tuesday, June 8. Prime
Minister Vladimir Putin will represent Russia at the CICA summit.
Among the main items on the agenda of the forum is the transfer of the
CICA chairmanship from Kazakhstan to Turkey for a period from 2010 to
2012. Iraq and Vietnam will become full-fledged CICA members bringing the
number of the CICA states to 22, and Bangladesh will be granted an
observer status.
Along with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the presidents of
Azerbaijan, Iran, Afghanistan and the foreign ministers of other
countries, as well as Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas are expected to
participate in the CICA summit.
Abbas' arrival is mainly linked with the recent attack of Israeli
warships on the Freedom Flotilla with relief supplies for the Gaza Strip.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan will have several bilateral
meetings, at which Turkey intends to explain its position on this incident
to foreign leaders.
The Iranian nuclear problem, the current situation in Iraq and
prospects for the Middle East settlement will be discussed at
narrow-format meetings of the CICA forum. Local media reported that
Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan will hold a tripartite meeting on the
struggle against terrorism in the region, and the commission on
Turkey-U.S. economic partnership will have a meeting.
.Russia-Canada forestry forum to open in Irkutsk.
IRKUTSK, June 7 (Itar-Tass) -- A Russian-Canadian forestry forum will
open here on Monday. The Canada-Eurasia-Russia Business Association, the
Canadian Forest Technologies Company will hold the forum with the support
of the Irkutsk regional authorities.
The forum aims at "the use of the North American experience in the
Russian forest industry and at the development of closer cooperation in
investments and technologies," the forum organizing committee told
Itar-Tass.
Canada will present to the Russian forum hosts technologies and
equipment for woodcutting, the construction of forest roads, the use of
non-merchantable wood, the production of wood boards, plywood, as well as
favorable schemes for transport logistics, customs clearing and the
financing of projects in the lumber industry. Such worldwide known
companies in the lumber industry as Tigercat, Rotobec, Comact, Eltomation
and Export Development Canada will represent Canada at the forum.
A working group on the lumber industry of the Russian-Canadian
Business Council is to meet at the forum.
The Irkutsk Region is among the leading Russian regions for
woodcutting and wood processing. From annual 20 million cubic meters of
timber a third undergoes advanced processing and is used for producing
cellulose, wood boards and plywood at the Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk plants.
The remaining wood is sold on domestic and foreign markets as round wood
and saw timber. The Russian round wood is mainly exported to China, and
processed timber is supplied to more than 20 countries.
