Iranian wrestlers advance to finals of Georgian wrestling tournament

Tehran, June 7, IRNA – Two Iranian wrestlers climbed their way to the finals of the Georgia International Free-Style and Greco-Roman Grand Prize Wrestling Tournament, underway in Tbilisi (June 5-7).
According to Iran Wrestling Federation Public Relations Department, Iran’s Mehdi Taqavi (66kg) and Amir Ali-Akbari (120 kg) managed to find their way to the finals after trouncing their rivals in the first through third rounds of the contests.
Taqavi will face his Canadian rival, while Ali-Akbari will fight the Georgian opponent in the finals on Sunday afternoon for the gold medal of the 66kg free style and 120 kg Greco Roman categories.
Taqavi and Ali-Akbari had in the first through third rounds of the competitions defeated their host rivals to book a berth at the finals.
On Saturday, Iran bagged six medals: one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Based on the schedule, there will be competitions in the 60kg and 84 kg Greco-Roman style and 74 kg and 84 kg Free-Style categories on Monday./end
