Pak analyst backs Iran’s swap deal

Islamabad, June 7, IRNA – A senior Pakistani journalist Muhammad Saleh Zafar endorsed the statement of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on fuel swap declaration and said that the west should seriously think about the issue raised by Iranian President.
President Ahmadinejad has said the May 17 Iran-Turkey-Brazil fuel swap declaration is a step in right direction to express demands of whole the world nations.
Talking to IRNA on Sunday, the Pakistani journalist said that the viewpoint of Iranian President has always been given importance internationally and his statements are taken very seriously by the intellectuals of the world.
“The declaration defends a fact and we should try to ensure the move would continue to guarantee justice and rights of nations. It should turn into a yardstick in international relations,” said President Ahmadinejad.
Muhammad Saleh Zafar said that Iranian President has rightly pointed out that Tehran Declaration does not concern three countries only, rather it reveals demands and expectations of all the world nations and the ones seeking equal rights for all nations.
The journalist said that nobody favors nuclear proliferation, however, it should not be targeted towards some region or some specific country.
“If the west continues to pressurize Iran over the nuclear issue the Islamic Republic might withdraw itself from Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)”, he believed.
The analyst said that the pressure on Iran’s nuclear programme is not justified as Iran has repeatedly said that its nuclear programme is solely meant for peaceful purposes.
Saleh Zafar added that Iran has taken a wise decision by signing a swap deal which would help to remove the distrust on its peaceful nuclear programme.
He demanded of the US and its allies to change their aggressive approach towards Iran. “Now it would be better for west not to disturb Iran over its nuclear program as it has already given many concessions”, he suggested.
“I think Israel is the only hurdle in accepting Iran’s nuclear swap deal”, he opined.
Muhammad Saleh Zafar was of the opinion that Israel doesn’t want to see Iran achieving status of a nuclear power that is why it has been pressurizing US not accept the deal./end
