Crows farewell Edwards with 23-point win
Adelaide veteran Tyson Edwards farewelled the AFL a winner as the Crows upset
Fremantle by 23 points at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
Edwards was influential in Adelaide's 16.9 (105) to 12.10 (82) victory, just their
third win of the season.
In his 321st and final game, Edwards kicked two team lifting goals and gathered 32
possessions.
Crows forward Taylor Walker booted four goals while Dockers Matthew Pavlich and
Michael Barlow each kicked three.
Edwards, on cue before an adoring home crowd, dominated the opening half by roaming
far and wide to collect 18 possessions.
The reliable onballer capped that with his two goals in the second quarter, the
first an accurate 30m running effort followed by a 50m set shot.
Those goals, and Walker's brilliance, helped the Crows to a 23-point halftime lead,
11.3 to 7.4 - an advantage that ultimately was the final margin.
Walker kicked three goals in the first half, all of genuine quality but none greater
than a remarkable boundary line bomb from 55 metres which sailed through.
The game tightened substantially in the third quarter as Dockers captain Pavlich
hoisted his side back into the contest with consecutive goals.
Pavlich had been held to just three touches in the opening half, manned for much of
that time by Adelaide's eight-gamer Phil Davis.
But Davis was knocked out in the second term when running with the flight of the
ball to mark, the footy arriving at the same time as Docker giant Aaron Sandilands'
hip and shoulder.
The collision was instantaneous but, by its nature, will be examined by the match
review panel.
The Dockers closed to within six points early in the last term but Adelaide
responded with the next three goals on their way to delivering Fremantle's third
defeat of the season.
