PUSHKIN`S BIRTHDAY MARKED IN BAKU
Baku, June 5 (AzerTAc). An annual meeting dedicated to the 211th birthday of Pushkin was held in Baku at the foot of the monument to Pushkin bringing together the admirers of his poetry. The meeting was organized by the “Sodruzhestvo” Society under the patronage of the Russian Embassy and Rossotrudnichestvo, Russian federal government agency.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Dorokhin, who read “To Pushkin`s death” poem by M.F.Akhundov.
The monument to Pushkin was erected in Baku at the public garden on Pushkin Street on October 12, 2001, to mark the 200th birthday of the great poet. It is a shared project of Russia and Azerbaijan. The monument was designed by famous Russian sculptor, academician Yuri Orekhov, who died shortly before inauguration of a monument. The presentation of the monument was attended by National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.
