UNICEF DISCUSSES DRAFT COUNTRY PROGRAMME DOCUMENT FOR AZERBAIJAN

Baku, June 5 (AzerTAc). The draft country programme document for Azerbaijan was discussed during the annual session of United Nations Children`s Fund (UNICEF).
The document was presented by Regional Director for UNICEF Regional Director for CEE/CIS Steven Allen.
The document features UNICEF cooperation with Azerbaijan, Georgia, Serbia and Belarus, programs and projects carried out by the Organization in these countries and measures to be taken to solve the existing problems.
Azerbaijan`s permanent representative to the United Nations, ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev addressed the event who spoke of the progress achieved in Azerbaijan towards children`s healthcare, education and social protection and future relevant plans.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat said as a result of Armenia`s policy of ethnic cleansing and occupation, about one million Azerbaijanis, including hundreds of thousands of children were forced from their native lands.
Agshin Mehdiyev`s speech was followed by remarks of Armenian permanent representative to UN who tried to mislead the event participants. The Azerbaijani side exposed Armenian representative`s lies.
The draft country programe document for Azerbaijan is expected to be adopted in September this year.
