RF, China set to prevent large-scale conflict between two Koreas - Lavrov.

BEIJING, June 4 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and China are set not to let the
situation on the Korean Peninsula develop into a large-scale conflict
between Seoul and Pyongyang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said
on Friday summing up the results of his official visit to China.
"Russia and China are very much concerned that the Korean Peninsula is
on the brink of a military and political crisis. We believe that those
responsible for the sinking of the Cheonan corvette, when they are found,
must be hold answerable to the extent the world community thinks necessary
and adequate," he stressed. "Russia and China are confident that efforts
must be taken not to let the situation develop into uncontrollable
tensions fraught with a large-scale military conflict between South and
North Koreas. Russia and China will do their utmost not to allow it,"
Lavrov said.
"We hope for self-control and responsible behaviour of all parties
concerned," he added.
Touching on prospects for the resumption of six-party talks on
nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, the Russian foreign minister said it was
"too early to talk of that." "Although we and our Chinese partners are
confident that the negotiating process should be resumed in any case,
since there is no other mechanism," he summed up.
