AZERBAIJAN, RUSSIA DISCUSS INTERPARLIAMENTARY RELATIONS

Moscow, June 4 (AzerTAc). Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov has met Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Sergey Mironov.
Mironov praised the Russia-Azerbaijan relations.
“Personal contacts between the heads of our states contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations.”
Mironov underlined “President Ilham Aliyev`s, Azerbaijani veterans` and soldiers` attending celebrative events marking the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory in Moscow is a vivid evidence that Azerbaijan-Russia relations have deep historic roots.”
He also praised the interparliamentary cooperation, stressing the importance of enhancing it.
The Russian official wished the Azeri parliament successes in upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Azeri Parliament`s Speaker echoed Mironov`s words, hailing the two countries` relations, in particular cooperation between the legislative bodies.
Asadov recalled a recent Baku-hosted summit of world religious leaders, praising the fact Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia was among the participants.
The Milli Majlis chairman praised the activity of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s office in Russia, saying “under Leyla Aliyeva the office plays a significant role in developing relations among the Azeri and Russia youth”.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Asadov said the dispute was “a main factor” impeding development in the region.
He hailed the Russia`s efforts a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group.
Asadov reiterated official Baku`s position on the fact that some Russian parliamentarians participated in “parliamentary elections” held in the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh republic.
Mironov stressed Russia doesn`t recognize any state named “Nagorno-Karabakh republic”, adding “we will never do so”.
He also criticized the Russia MPs` attending the “parliamentary elections” in the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh republic.
