UNEP REGIONAL DIRECTOR: I ADVICE THOSE WHO INCLUDED BAKU INTO LIST OF WORLD`S MOST POLLUTED CITIES TO VISIT THIS BEAUTIFUL CAPITAL
Baku, June 4 (AzerTAc). I advice those who included Baku into a list of the world`s most polluted cities to visit this beautiful capital, Christophe Bouvier, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Regional Director for Europe, told a news conference here.
The UN official praised efforts of Azerbaijan`s relevant structures to strengthen protection of environment.
“I was an eyewitness of these efforts during my visit to Azerbaijan. Declaring 2010 as a “year of environment” is the best proof to what I said. I am sure Azerbaijan will make great achievements in this regard.”
Bouvier pointed out the UN is working out to develop a report on global environmental assessment. He said this report will have “positive” moments about Azerbaijan. The UN official said the report will be made public approximately in a month. “The report will be officially submitted to the Azerbaijani state.”
UNEP earlier announced that public events in Geneva, Baku and Genoa will lead World Environment Day 2010 activities in Europe.
