MOSCOW, June 3 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev and
Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel will discuss further improvement of the
trade and economic cooperation and mutual investments over the upcoming
visit of the Russian president to Germany.
Trade and economic cooperation has always been a priority in the
bilateral relations.
"The trade turnover slumped in 2009 to 39.9 billion dollars, but
showed a growth to 11.1 billion dollars over the first three months of the
current year," the press service of Russia's president said.
"Germany has invested over 19 billion dollars in Russia," where 7.37
billion dollars were made over the crisis year of 2009, the source said.
Germany was Russia's biggest trade partner over the past few years,
and Russia ranked first among Germany's partners in Eastern and Central
Europe. The trade turnover was at the highest level of 76.2 billion
dollars over 2008.
Russia and Germany have worked actively in transport machine, aircraft
and shipbuilding.
The two countries have made good progress in energy, the source said.
As for the oil and gas sector, Russia and Germany cooperate in the
construction of the North Stream pipeline, and the Russian-German energy
agency RuDEA is working on energy effectiveness and energy saving projects.
The leaders of the two countries will discuss "social, cultural and
humanitarian events to build up the friendship between the two peoples,"
the source said.
