Ortega welcomes prospects of stronger cooperation with Russia.

MANAGUA, June 3 (Itar-Tass) - Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega has
welcomed as positive prospects of stronger cooperation with Russia after
the first meeting of the two countries' intergovernmental commission that
ended in Managua on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei
Ryabkov told Itar-Tass.
"Ortega highly appreciated the Russian government's efforts to boost
relations with Nicaragua and to provide assistance to it," he said after
the meeting with the Nicaraguan leader.
Ryabkov, who is the co-chair of the commission, said he discussed with
Ortega different aspects of the commission's activities - the development
of infrastructure, electric power, mining, ports and airports as well as
deeper ties in communication, education and healthcare.
He stressed that "social importance of promising and mutually
advantageous projects is the tow countries' priority.'
Ortega expressed solidarity with many trends of Russia's foreign
policy and personal sympathy to Russia and its people.
