BELARUS REGARDS AZERBAIJAN AS `RELIABLE AND LONG-TERM PARTNER`

Baku, June 2 (AzerTAc). “Belarus regards Azerbaijan as a reliable and long-term partner,” chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said during a meeting with Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation, BelTA reports.
Andreichenko noted the two countries had established favorable relations. He also expressed hope that the forthcoming visit of the President of Belarus to Azerbaijan would contribute to further development of the bilateral cooperation.
He stressed that Belarus and Azerbaijan had reached a high level in trade and economic cooperation. “In 2009 the foreign trade turnover totaled $125 million and did not decline despite the financial and economic crisis. Moreover, in Q1 2010 the trade increased by 27%.”
“It is vital that the political contacts between the Presidents and parliamentarians benefit the bilateral all-round cooperation,” Andreichenko stressed.
Chairman of Azerbaijan parliament`s committee for international relations and inter-parliamentary ties Samad Seyidov noted Azerbaijan considers Belarus as an important strategic partner in the international arena.
He said “our countries have proved the neighbors and the international community that we can not simply develop but also help each other and demonstrate other nations how to develop the economy and relations inside the state”.
As for his visit to Belarus, the parliamentarian noted that he as a PACE Deputy Chairman intends to share the experience of the work in the European parliamentary institutions.
