Iran-EU have many opportunities for co-op: Mottaki
Brussels, June 2, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, by attending Iran-Europe commission of European Parliament, talked about international and regional issues on Tuesday.
Mottaki said that Iran had not attacked any other country for the past hundred years and since victory of the Islamic revolution, Iran has always been playing an active role in solving regional issues or world disputes.
He added that Iran also has played an active role in fight against drug smuggling and hosted millions of immigrants and Iraqi and Afghan refugees.
Mottaki continued that nuclear threats are one of concerns in the world and Iran is worried about such a threat , too, so international and regional cooperation should be formed to eliminate this concern.
Mottaki said that Iran wants a world free of mass-destruction weapons and believe that reviewing Non-Proliferation Treaty( NPT) in the year of 2010 would be a success in this field and really hope that the Middle East region becomes a region free of nuclear arsenal.
Referring to the Zionist regime mass-destruction weapons, Mottaki said that they have 300 to 500 nuclear warheads and do not allow NPT to supervise them and have no respect for repeated requests of the European Parliament or any other international bodies and they are a serious threat to all.
Iranian senior diplomat said that terrorism is a common concern of both Iran and Europe and added that Iran is itself a victim of terrorism.
Mottaki also called drug smuggling as another concern of the world.
He said that Afghanistan is a large source for drugs and presence of the alien forces in the country had no positive results in this concern.
Mottaki continued that there exist many fields for cooperation between Iran and Europe.
Referring to Tehran Declaration, the foreign minister said that the declaration was initiated by Iran, Turkey and Brazil and it was a positive step which can be considered as a positive sign for confidence-building by Iran.
He also expressed hope that the positive act of Iran receives an appropriate reaction from other side./end
