Korolyov to assume office of Lipetsk Region governor again.
LIPETSK, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Oleg Korolyov is to assume the office of
the regional administration chief again at a ceremony here on Tuesday.
Georgy Poltavchenko, presidential plenipotentiary representative in
the Central Federal District, the governors of neighbouring regions, the
heads of territorial Federal executive power and local self-government
bodies, and the directors of regional departments and services have been
invited to attend the ceremony, a regional administration official has
told Itar-Tass.
Korolyov's candidacy was suggested by the President of the Russian
Federation on April 22, 2010. The Lipetsk Regional Council of Deputies
confirmed the nomination on April 26.
Oleg Korolyov was born in the workers' settlement Terbuny, Lipetsk
Region, on February 23, 1952. He graduated from Saratov Agriculture
Institute, and the Rostov-based higher party school.
Since 1990, Korolyov was a member of the Lipetsk Regional Council and
from 1992 he chaired the Council. From April 1998, he has been heading the
Lipetsk Region administration. He was re-elected to the post in 2002 and
was later again vested with the powers of region chief in 2005 for a
five-year term. He is married, and has two children.
.Paraguay FM to pay first-ever official visit to Russia.
BUENOS AIRES, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Hector Lacognata, Paraguayan
Minister of Foreign Affairs, leaves for Russia on Tuesday for the first
official visit in the history of diplomatic relations between the two
countries, the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry has announced.
Lacognata will hold talks in Moscow with his Russian counterpart
Sergei Lavrov who visited that Latin American country earlier, in 2007.
The working groups of the two countries are also to meet to discuss
the state of bilateral relations, political aspects, and trade matters. As
a result of the talks the two Foreign ministers will sign a Joint
Declaration.
Then the Paraguayan Foreign Minister will travel to St Petersburg for
a meeting with Governor Valentina Matviyenko to discuss prospects for
possible cooperation. Over there, there will be a "Paraguay: Country of
Opportunities" presentation for Russian businessmen, industrialists, and
investors.
Last year, trade turnover between Russia and Paraguay amounted to $358
million. Meat products account for the bulk of Paraguayan exports to
Russia. The Russian Federation delivers mainly fertilizers to Paraguay.
Diplomatic relations between Russia and Paraguay were established in
1909.

ST PETERSBURG, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - The present-day state of and
prospects for the world production of grain crops will be discussed at the
8th International conference on wheat.
This widely representative forum is to open here on Tuesday with a
plenary session under the auspices of the United Nations Food and
Agriculture Organization and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement
Center (CIMMIT).
Professor Nikolai Dzyubenko, General Director of the N.I. Vavilov
All-Russia Plant-Raising Research Institute (VIR) of the Academy of
Agricultural Sciences, who chairs the conference organizing committee, in
an Itar-Tass interview, has emphasized the fact that "prominent scientists
and experts will analyze ways to ensure the world's food security in the
light of the changing climate and dynamic growth of the Earth's
population". Special attention will be devoted to "the gathering, storage,
study, selection and rational use of the genetic resources of wheat," he
specified.
The VIR, Dzyubenko said, is the country's only research center which
preserves a living collection of the genetic resources of plants and
studies it. The collection currently comprises over 213,000 specimens of
cultivated plants and wild-growing ones.
Thus, the preserved collection of grain crops includes more than
95,000 permanent catalogue items.
The catalogue of legumes includes over 43,000 specimens, that of
cereals -- 52,000, and industrial crops -- 26,000 specimens. The
Institute's herbarium collection has about 260,000 sheets.
.Pages of History filmfest opens in N Italy on Tuesday.
ROME, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Russian films on historical themes are on
the programme of a Pages of History film festival that opens on Tuesday in
Castiglione delle Stiviere, a picturesque town on the shore of Lake Como
in Italy's north.
The festival has been organized by the Russian directorate for
international programmes under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Russia to Italy.
On the festival's programme are the films "The Disappeared Empire" by
Karen Shakhnazarov, "The Admiral" by Andrei Kravchuk, "Russian Game" by
Pavel Chukhrai, and "The People of Ours" by Dmitry Meskhiyev.
The Directorate for international programmes in cooperation with the
Italian Cinecila Holding and the National cinema school of Italy first
introduced Russian cinematography five years by arranging a film festival
in Rome. Since then the geography and themes of film festivals have
considerably gained in scope.
