Railwaymen lower ticket prices for Sapsan express trains.
MOSCOW, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Railwaymen lower the prices of tickets,
effective from Tuesday, for the Sapsan (peregrin falcon) express trains
that ply between Moscow and St Petersrburg.
An official in the Russian Railways Company (RRC) has pointed out that
such a measure is connected with summer track-maintenance operations and,
accordingly, with an inconsiderable lengthening of the trains' travel
time. "The price of 1st and 2nd Class tickets is lowered for all Sapsan
trains," resultant of decrease in basic cost, the RRC official said.
Thus, the minimum cost of 2nd Class travel aboard the Sapsan trains in
one direction will now be 1,800 roubles. There will be a discount of ten
percent in case of purchase of a round-trip ticket. If a person presents
an RRC universal card, discounti will be five percent. "The sale of
reduced-price tickets for June 1 departure is already under way," the RRC
official pointed out, recalling that an individual seasonal regulation
index and an indexation coefficient are applied to basic tariffs for
travelling aboard the Sapsan trains. These vary, depending on the day of
the week and time of the train's departure.
Since the Sapsan express trains began to ply along Moscow-St
Petersburg route -- from December 17, last year, to April 30, this year --
they carried more than 411,000 passengers, with 123,600 of them travelling
in April alone, the RRC official specified.
