Caspian Oil and Gas int`l exhibition opens in Baku Tue.
BAKU, June 1 (Itar-Tass) -A traditional Caspian Oil and Gas
international exhibition opens here on Tuesday. It is held here for a17th
time and will run until June 4, an official at the exhibition organizing
committee announced.
The distinguishing feature of this exhibition is that it has been
arranged at a new exhibition facility -- the Baku Expo Center (BEC). Built
within a record-short time, the BEC takes up an area of about ten hectares
and is the largest one in the region.
Exhibition organizers say that 280 companies from 26 countries will
take part in the exhibition which will also include the National
Expositions of Russia, China, Britain, and, for the first time, the United
Arab Emirates, the companies of which engage in implementing Azerbaijani
energy projects.
President Ilkham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and the Energy Ministers of
Russia, the United States, Norway, and other countries are expected to
attend the opening ceremony.
A two-day international oil and gas conference is also to be held
within the scope of the exhibition on June 2-3 to discuss matters of
current importance concerning the production of hydrocarbons, the ecology
of the Caspian Sea, the ensurance of the energy security of Europe, as
well as the growing role of Azerbaijan as a transiter country.
Expert estimate is that the reserves of hydrocarbons in the Caspian
Sea area amount to 200,000 million barrels of oil and 640,000,000 million
cubic metres of gas. Extractable reserves of Azerbaijan's oil and gas are
estimated at 2,000 million tonnes of oil and 2,000,000 million cu. m. of
gas.
