UAE reels under heat wave, Dubai temperature touches 51

Dubai, Jul 14 (PTI) Reeling under a heat wave, areas close to Dubai recorded a temperature of 51 degrees Celsius, while conditions in Ras Al Khaimah emirate of UAE weredescribed as extremely stressful by meteorologists.

Although the temperature reached 51 degrees Celsius at Minhad, an airbase inland between Dubai and Sharjah, the humidity was only 12 percent, the Dubai Meteorological Officesaid.

On the other hand, conditions were considerably worse in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, where a temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius was recorded, because of the high level ofhumidity.

"Ras Al Khaimah was possibly the star of the day with atemperature of 45 degrees Celsius and humidity of 33 percent.

But the comfort index which relies on temperature, humidity, and windspeed, was recorded at nine, which is extremely stressful," a weather department official was quoted as sayingby the Khaleej Times.

While Minhad which recorded a level 6 on the comfort index was described as very uncomfortable, Al Ain recorded atop temperature of 48 degrees Celsius.
