IOR-ARC experts approve establishment of maritime transport council
PRETORIA, May 29
(Saba) - The meeting of the committee of maritime transportation experts in the
Indian
Ocean Rim-Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) has approved the
establishment of a maritime transport council of the association member states.
The meeting was convened in Durbin in South Africa and headed by Yemen.
The participants urged to submit the recommendations of the meeting to the
ministerial council of the association set for July this year in Yemen's capital of
Sana'a.
The meeting also approved the proposal of the United Arab Emirates and South Africa
and Yemen's recommendation for Oman to host the headquarters of the association
that
will be presented to the ministerial council meeting.
'The Indian Ocean Rim-Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC), initially
known as the Indian Ocean Rim Initiative, is an international organization with 18
member
states. It was first established in Mauritius on March 1995 and formally launched on
6-7 March 1997.' 'The Association disseminates information on trade and investment
regimes,
with a view to helping the region's business community better understand the
impediments to trade and investment within the region.' 'These information exchanges
have been
intended to serve as a base to expand intra-regional trade.' FR
