NY document, a step forward toward a no-atomic-weapon world: Iran envoy

United Nations, New York, May 29, IRNA – The Final document of the NPT Review Conference is one step forward towards a world with no atomic weapons, Iran’s permament envoy to the UN nuclear watchdog Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA at the end of the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference here Friday night.

The conference had started on May 3 at the UN headquarters where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad presented 11 proposals for global disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons including setting up a deadline, year 2025 for example, for complete implementation of global disarmament.

Iran’s proposal for fixing a deadline was not approved by the participating parties due to the obstacles created by nuclear states, Soltaniyeh said.

Commenting on the criticisms made by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the conference, Soltanieh said her remarks have led to further isolation of the US as Washington is forced to follow the will of the international community on joining of the Zionist regime to the NPT and opening the doors of its nuclear facilities to the IAEA’s inspectors./end
