24 LTTE cadres, one soldier killed in Lanka clashes

Colombo, Jul 14 (PTI) At least 24 LTTE cadres and one soldier were killed in intense clashes in the embattledNorthern Sri Lanka, the army said Sunday.

On the Vavuniya front, troops attacked two LTTE bunkers located in the Palamodai area Saturday and killedthree tiger militants during the confrontations, it said.

In the Navvi area, troops were involved in three separate confrontations with the LTTE cadres, it said addingfour tiger rebels and a soldier were killed in the clashes.

Separately, troops killed five tiger rebels and injured 15 others in Mullaithivu and some areas of theembattled north-eastern Welioya, the military said.

In another incident, security forces killed one rebel in Kambiliyawa in northern Sri Lanka Saturday, the MediaCentre for National Security (MCNS) said.

At least four LTTE cadres were reported killed and four others injured during a confrontation in Sannarkulam areain Vavuniya, the army said.

As many as four tiger rebels were killed at Puthukamamin Vavuniya yesterday, the army said.

Troops attacked a group of LTTE fighters atKambiliyawa in Welioya and killed a rebel, the MCNS said.

At least two tiger militants were killed duringclashes in Kiribbanwewa in Welioya Saturday, the army said.

Meanwhile, troops patrolling on the Mannar coast found a boat fitted with an out board mortar (OBM) left unattended in Ponnampiddi area Saturday. PTI
