USA sends medicines to flood-stricken southern Tajikistan.

DUSHANBE, May 26 (Itar-Tass) - The USA has sent over 8,500 tons of
medicines for the population of southern Tajikistan that was hit by strong floods.

On Wednesday, a C-130 transport aircraft carrying humanitarian
cargo touched down at the airport of the Tajik capital, the press service
of the U.S. Embassy to Tajikistan reported.
Larry Harrison, embassy's Defence Attache said the main task is to
deliver medicines there where they are most needed. According to him,
medics of Kulyab (the flood epicentre) said what aid they needed most of
all, and the USA has delivered what they asked for. All in all, the USA
has allocated over one million dollars for humanitarian aid to Tajikistan.
According to the Tajik government, 42 people were killed and 33 are
missing amid floods. Over 5,500 families have been left without shelter.
The total damage has exceeded 600 million dollars, and the republican
authorities have asked the international community for emergency aid.
