Transition to democracy is govt.'s priority: Hossain Zillur
DHAKA, Bangladesh July 13 (BSS)- The government is putting highest priority to uphold its principle as well as people's expectation in advancing towards a sustainable and stable transition towarddemocracy.
It has been taking initiative to bring all forces in the political arena together for creating a national consensus as itdoes not want to confine within the fence of mere formalities.
After dialogue with 11-member delegation of Krishak Sramik Janata League, Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said this at a joint press briefing at the Chief Adviser'sOffice. LGRD and Cooperative Adviser M Anwarul Iqbal was present.
The 23rd round of dialogue was held in presence of Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed at his office. Both sides said thatthe talks were taken place at a cordial and open atmosphere.
Led by party President Bangabir Abdul Quader Siddiqi, the KSJL delegation, among others, included General Secretary Habibur Rahman Talukder Khoka, Central Committee Members Begum Nasreen Quader Siddiqi, Principal Khaleda Habib, Kamal Uddin Ahmed andAdvocate Manmohan Debanath.
Dr Hossain Zillur said the government will create an atmosphere so that people can cast their votes without fear and interference and steps will be taken to maintain neutrality ofthe administration during polls.
Responding to a point raised by Quader Siddiqi regarding the meeting of the advisers with Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina at her residence following her temporary release, the adviser categorically said the government is not taking the side with any political party rather it is taking necessary steps to make thepath of political consensus.
In the joint press briefing, Quader Siddiqi said "On the dialogue table today, we found no sign of imposing any condition from the government side." "We believe that the general elections in the country will be held by third week of December next and none of the caretakergovernment will participate in the polls" he added.
KSJL raised 28- point proposal on the dialogue table covering various socio-political issues and stated that people inno way wants to go back to the pre- January 11 situation.
Dr Hossain Zillur said the government has taken positively the proposals made by KSJL to strengthen the 'culture oflistening' and increasing mass-contact.
"Initiative and invitation from the government to all will be continued," the adviser said adding all are equal in the eye of the government and it wants to push the nation forwardunitedly.
Referring to various demands, proposals and observations raised by the political parties on the dialogue table, Dr Hossain Zillur said their points will help create a broader politicalconsensus.
KSJL proposals included holding dialogue with rest of the political parties, creating congenial atmosphere for voting, democratic practice within party, checking price hike, installing own power plants to supply power in big private and government buildings, proper evaluation of the freedom fighters at all leveland trial of the war criminals.
