DOCUMENTARY ON GUBA GENOCIDE SCREENED IN U.S.
Baku, May 25 (AzerTAc). A presentation of the documentary titled “Genocide: Guba”, made by Eurasian Institute for International Studies and funded by the Council of State Support for NGO-s under the Azeri President, was held in California. Scenario and director of the film is Etibar Mammadov, main advisor is MP Ganira Pashayeva.
The documentary reveals the fates of the thousands of Azeris, whose relatives were savagely killed during the bloody massacre committed by the Armenian nationalists in the Azerbaijani city of Guba on March 30-31, 1918.
The presentation organized by the Azerbaijan-American Council and Eurasian Institute for International Studies, involved representatives of Turkish and Azeri Diasporas, Council General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov and Vice Council of Turkey in Los Angeles Arif Celik.
Chairman of Azerbaijan-American Council Javid Huseynov highlithed tragic developments featured in the film. He said the genocide was perpetrated under the guidance of Dashnaks leader Stepan Shaumyan.
Suleymanov said ethnocentric ideologies followed by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation – Dashanaksutyun had never been accepted in Azerbaijan, which he described as “a historically tolerant country”. “Guba region, where mountain Jews have been living together with Azerbaijanis for centuries, is a striking example of tolerance and mutual understanding reigning in the Azerbaijani society,” Suleymanov stressed.
The Council General said “today the Armenian society respects Dashanaksutyun`s radical and inhumane ideas”.
President of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations Ergun Kirlikovali praised the documentary, saying the guba events were just one of crimes committed by Armenian Dashnak in the Caucasus and Anatolia during the World War I.
