Rudd praises South Korea for 'restraint'

The federal government has praised South Korea for showing "admirable restraint" in
the wake of a deliberate naval attack launched by its northern neighbour.
An investigation has concluded North Korea was responsible for the torpedoing of a
South Korean warship in March, which claimed the lives of 46 sailors.
South Korean president Lee Myung-bak on Monday announced its formal response to the
finding, severing trade links and barring North Korean merchant vessels from using
its shipping lanes.
South Korea will also seek an additional resolution through the UN security council.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd commended South Korea for its response.
"South Korea has shown admirable restraint," he told parliament.
"The measures (president Lee) has announced are responsible ones which send a strong
message to the DPRK (North Korea)."
The international community had a duty to ensure North Korea's "deeply disturbing
and deeply destabilising" act did not pass without appropriate action.
Australia stood side-by-side with South Korea in this testing time, Mr Rudd added.
