Italian photographer's body received by family;
BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - The family of the Italian freelance photographerwho died in the May 19 clashes between soldiers and anti-government protesters of United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD)received his body at Bangkok's Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for a cremation ceremony Monday afternoon.
Fabio Polenghi, 48, was shot dead during a military operation while covering the government action to close down the Red Shirt protest at Ratchaprasong and its surrounding areas.
The cremation ceremony took place Monday afternoon at Wat Klong Toey in Bangkok. His ashes and bones will be taken on a flight to Italy with the family Monday night.
According to the Forensic Medicine Police Institute, Mr Polenghi was shot dead through his heart, lung, and liver, causing him to lose a large amount of blood. His body was the last taken back by families of the total 11 bodies sent for autopsy there during the clashes.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Pongsapat Pongcharoen said the family of Mr Polenghi thanked the Thai government for sending them a condolence letter, even as it asked the Thai auithorities to thoroughy and quickly investigate the cause of his death. They said that development regarding the case can be acknowledged to them via the Italian Embassy to Thailand.(TNA)
