Turkmenistan pres to arrive in India for state visit.

NEW DELHI, May 24 (Itar-Tass) -- President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov
of Turkmenistan, who arrives in India for the first state visit on Monday,
will discuss cooperation in the oil and gas sphere and other fields in
this country, director of the Department of Eurasian Studies of the Indian
Foreign Ministry Ajai Bisaria told ITAR-TASS.
As a spokesman for the Indian Foreign Ministry said, the program of
the three-day visit of the Turkmenistanian president includes meetings
with President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Mohamad Ansari and Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh. During the meetings, the sides will discuss a
wide range of issues of Indian-Turkmenistanian interaction and topical
international problems.
Ajai Bisaria stressed that one of important topics of talks within the
framework of this visit will be cooperation of New Delhi and Ashgabat in
the oil and gas sphere. In this connection, he recalled the project of the
gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India. According to
preliminary data, the length of the gas pipeline will be almost 1,700
kilometers. It will make it possible to export 100 million cubic meters of
gas a day from the Turmenistanian gas field Dauletabad, and its biggest
part will be exported to India - - 60 percent.
On the result of the visit of Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to New Delhi,
the sides plan to sign four or five agreements on cooperation between
India and Turkmenistan in the sphere of economy, science and technologies,
culture and education. As the spokesman for the Indian Foreign Ministry
stressed, it will a visit of goodwill and it will serve the strengthening
of friendly ties between the two countries' peoples.
