Russia Deputy PM Zhukov to discuss work of intergovt comm in Spain.



MADRID, May 24 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander
Zhukov will arrive in Spain Monday on a two-day visit to discuss the
financial crisis and the work of the bilateral intergovernmental
commission for trade and economic cooperation.
Zhukov will meet with Spanish Second Vice-President Elena Salgado
Mendez to discuss the problems of the economic and financial crisis and
the measures, which the Spanish government is taking to overcome the
crisis.
At a meeting with Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce Miguel
Sebastian Gascon, who co-chairs the bilateral intergovernmental commission
from Spain, as well as Zhukov co-chairs it from Russia, the negotiators
will synchronize the positions on the previously reached agreements and
will agree on the date of a next meeting of the intergovernmental
commission this year.
Alongside, Zhukov is expected to meet with Secretary of State for
Sports Jaime Lissavetzky Diez.
At the end of the visit the Russian deputy prime minister will meet
with Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos Cuyaube to discuss the Year of
Russia in Spain and the Year of Spain in Russia in 2011.

.Orthodox patriarchs to open Slavonic Literature & Culture Day.

MOSCOW, May 24 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia will mark Slavonic Literature and
Culture Day on Monday. This is the only clerical and public holiday
instituted in 1991. The holiday is dedicated to the authors of the
Cyrillic alphabet - Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Ecumenical Patriarch of
Constantinople Bartholomew will attend an opening ceremony of the holiday
in Moscow.
On Monday morning, Patriarch Kirill and Patriarch Bartholomew, who is
currently on an official visit in Moscow, will lead a joint divine liturgy
at the Christ the Savior Cathedral. The liturgy will be dedicated right to
three events. The Trinity Monday and the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius
coincide this year. Alongside, His Holiness Kirill is named after one of
the Slavonic enlighteners and will celebrate his name day on Monday.
After the religious service Patriarch Kirill will lead a public
procession from the Christ the Savior Cathedral to Red Square. About
40,000 people are expected to participate in the procession. A festive
opening ceremony of the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture will be
held at about 02.00 pm Moscow time on Monday on the Vasilyevsky Spusk
Square at the Intercession Cathedral (better known as the St. Basil
Cathedral). Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Patriarch of Moscow
and All Russia Kirill head the Russian organizing committee for the
holiday this year.
Public organizations and foreign diplomatic missions will lay flowers
to the Monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius on the Slavyanskaya Square
in downtown Moscow.
A festive concert will be given at the Grand Kremlin Palace, and then
a reception will be given on behalf of the Russian government on Monday
evening.
The festive events on the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture will
continue until the end of June.

.Communist candidate wins at Bratsk early mayoral election.

IRKUTSK, May 24 (Itar-Tass) -- After all ballots had been counted
candidate from the Russian Communist Party Alexander Serov gained 39.71%
of votes in the Sunday early mayoral election in Bratsk, the second
largest city in the Irkutsk Region. The turnout has made 30.17%, a source
in the regional election commission told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The major rivals of the winner - self-nominees from the United Russia
Party Alexander Doskalschuk and Sergei Grishin polled 21.76% and 16.8% of
votes, respectively. Seven candidates were running for Bratsk mayor.
Alexander Serov is 55 years old. His latest post was a technical
director of the Electrocomplekt enterprise.
The early mayoral election was held in Bratsk, because the previous
mayor filed his resignation on January 12, 2010. Under the federal
legislation the election of a new mayor should be held not later than six
months after the resignation of the previous mayor.
