President urges Russia to be more cautious on its Iran position

Tehran, May 24, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged Russian officials Sunday to be more cautious on their positions about Iran regarding its peaceful nuclear program.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the end of a cabinet session.

President Ahmadinejad said that positions taken by different countries vis-a-vis each other would be recorded in the historical memory of each nation and would influence their future relations.

“Maybe it is easy to change positions for states which are placed apart from each other but it would not be so easy for two states which are neighbors,” said the President, stressing that “Iran has never acted against the people of Russia.”

Referring to Iran as a “great and honest” neighbor of Russia, President Ahmadinejad said, “If I were a Russian official, I would be more cautious about what I say and how I act about this great and honest neighbor.”

The President stressed that the Tehran Declaration has opened a new way to solve the dispute about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities and left no excuses behind in this regard.

The Tehran Declaration was signed by Iran, Turkey and Brazil on the sidelines of the G15 summit meeting held in Iran on May 17.

“The Tehran Declaration was transparent and a new chance for constructive international cooperation and interaction,” said the President.

“We expect our neighboring and friendly countries to strongly support the declaration and allow no excuses to stop its implementation,” he said./end
